Bird of the Year 2004 - Eurasian Griffon Vulture  

Eurasian Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus) [ORBI in Georgian language]
is rare year-round resident and partly dispersing.
Four colony known for Great Caucasia and two for South-Eastern part of Georgia, at the Iori Table-land.
Total number can be estimated as about 45 breeding pairs.
Nests in caves and recess on precipices, cliffs.
In 1960-80''s small colony was known on the Udabno Ridge, but during observation in 1990''s-2003, only non-breeding
individuals were recorded here.
This species was including in the first edition of the Red Data Book of Georgia (1982).
