Crested Lark (Galerida cristata) - common species in Udabno semi-desert

BIRDWATCHING SITES: UDABNO RIDGE AND JANDARI LAKE

Area located in semi-arid desert in south-eastern part of country on the frontier of Georgia and Azerbaijan. During excursion at Udabno Ridge and in grassy steppes the following species may be observed - Honney Buzzard, Short-toed Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Long-legged Buzzard, Imperial Eagle, Little Owl, Crested Lark, Short-toed Lark, Calandra Lark, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Isabelline Wheatear, Rock Nuthatch, Blue Rock Thrush, Pied Wheatear, Black-eared Wheatear, Lesser Gray Shrike, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, Rose-coloured Starlings, Black-headed Bunting, Rock Bunting, Rock Sparrow. Ruddy Shelducks live on the local saltish lakes. Sighting a Wolf is a distinct possibility. There may be an opportunity to visit the fascinating rock caves of an ancient monastery.
At Jandari Lake (10.6 sq.km, maximum depth 7.2 m, located at height 291 m above sea level) rich variety of wetland species are presented, including Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Pygmy Cormorant, Bittern, Squacco Heron, Little Egret, Great White Egret, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Glossy Ibis, various duck species, Moorhen, Coot, Whiskered Tern, White-winged Tern, Gull-billed Tern, Great Reed-Warbler, Penduline Tit.
