THE BIRD CONSERVATION UNION OF GEORGIA (BCUG)
The Bird Conservation Union of Georgia has been established on 17 October 1997 in Tbilisi, when Constituent Assembly of BCUG took place at the Conference Hall of the Institute of Zoology of Georgian Academy of Sciences, where 37 persons attended. Some later, on 14 August 1998 the Bird Conservation Union of Georgia was registered by judge L.Thadiashvili in court of Vake district of Tbilisi. National registration certificate is No 5/9 - 37. First BCUG Governing body - President, Vice-President, Chairman and seven members of BCUG Bureau were elected on Assembly: President of BCUG - Professor, Dr. Boris Kurashvili, Vice-President - Dr. Revaz Zhordania and Chairman - Alexander Abuladze. The National Bird of Georgia - Pheasant Phasianus colchicus, well known all over the world bird species, was selected at the logo of our Union. Principal goals of Bird Conservation Union of Georgia are: -conservation of Georgian birds and their habitats; -propaganda of bird conservation ideas among people; -development of ornithological research in Georgia; -development of birdwatching in Georgia; -co-operation of scientists and amateurs for joint projects; -collaboration with international and national organizations. Bird Conservation Union of Georgia is a non-governmental, non-political, non-commercial charity organization, established to unite the efforts of persons whose general aim is conservation of Georgian birds and their habitats. Membership in BCUG is open to individuals and different organizations. Anyone can become a member of BCUG, if he or she recognizes the main aims of our Union, supports the BCUG development and in accordance with own possibilities participates in its activity. Members of BCUG can be citizens of Georgia and all other countries. As on 1 August 2009, BCUG has 96 individual members, from which 81 are citizens of Georgia. The Union has also 12 international members from five countries - 6 from Russia, 2 from Estonia, 2 from Ukraine, 1 from Germany and 1 from Israel. The BCUG members represent a wide scale of professions (mostly amateur birders, students and, also, professional ornithologists, zoologists, ecologists), whose ages varies from seventeen to sixty-nine. Unfortunately, BCUG has not own office yet. Our archive is founded at the Institute of Zoology of Academy of Scinces of Georgia, in the same place meetings of members are helding. The BCUG is sincerely grateful to Director of Institute Dr. Georgi Bakhtadze for this support of our activities. New BCUG Governing body - Chairman (Dr.Alexander Abuladze) and three members of BCUG Bureau (Dr.Gia Edisherashvili, Andrei Kandaurov and Dr. Mzia Kokhia) were elected on Annual Meeting 15th December 2007.
