Common Swift (Apus apus)
Georgian name: namgala
Fairly widespread and very common summer breeder and passage visitor in whole of country. Occurs anywhere but especially in areas including settlements, with suitable nesting sites (modern buildings) and in areas with food abundance (meadows, semi-deserts). More numerous in the large settlements. The Georgian population estimated perhaps over 1.500.000 breeding pairs, has obviously increased in numbers during the last three - four decades due to favorable nest sites in new buildings. In south-eastern areas occasionally nests on cliffs.
