Common year-round resident (partial migrant), widespread and common passage migrant and rare to uncommon winter visiror in small numbers. Most widespread and freguent breeding raptor species in Georgia. In some areas marked fluctuations in breeding numbers with changes in small rodent populations. Present Georgian population is more-or-less stabile and estimated 1500-2000 breeding pairs. Widespread and quite common passage migrant across country. More common during autumn passage in open and semi-open landscapes of Eastern Georgia, at Kolkheti Lowland and in large rivers’ valleys in Western Georgia. Sometimes in small numbers recorded in winter, mainly in dry open habitats of south-eastern parts of country.
